How to Get Involved

Summary

 Every family with a child under the age of 5 years living in Slough can register at a Slough children’s centre.  You only need to register once to access services at all 10 children’s centres. You will receive a membership card with a unique membership number that you can produce as you attend services at any Slough children’s centre.

Services will vary at every children’s centre. Call your local children’s centre for details of the latest programme. A calendar of events and activities is produced every half term. Activities change during the school holiday when a separate calendar is produced to inform of these changes.

By arrangement the calendar can be e mailed to registered families to ensure they are aware of the latest activities.

All families in Slough are welcome to access children’s centre services.

  • Funded early learning for 2,3 and 4 year olds
  • Flexible early years care from 8am to 6pm
  • Support and advice to families on a range of topics including child development, housing, debt management, benefits advice and adult and community learning.
  • Family Learning including Play and Learn Groups
  • Parenting, family support, health and keeping safe

Provider Responsibilities

Partner agencies delivering services within a Slough children’s centre have a responsibility to ensure they follow the children’s centre safeguarding policy which includes providing evidence of safer recruitment and adhering to the policy whilst on site.  

Partners have a commitment to provide data on the impact their service has on their service users. Partners have a responsibility to be represented at the termly Service Partner Network meeting in the area they deliver their service. 

Strategic partners have responsibility to be represented at the Children’s Centre Advisory Board.

Monitoring & Evaluation

  • Evidence of attendees at activities reaching the expected outcomes of a particular session
  • Evidence of step up or step down of a case file.
  • Evidence of a child reaching their expected level of development 

Cost of the Service

 This will vary, there is often no cost at the point of delivery to the service user.
