Schools are funded by the government through the Dedicated Schools Grant (DSG). Each local authority will have a Schools Forum who advise the council on the allocation of the DSG. Members of Schools Forum are either headteachers, governors or other senior members of staff. Further information about Slough Schools Forum can be found here.
In 2018-19 the DSG is split into 4 notional blocks:
- Early Years Block – funds early learning for 2, 3 and 4 years olds.
- Schools Block – provides the funding for mainstream schools including the first £6000 of funding to support children with additional needs.
- High Needs Block – provides all the funding for special schools and the top up funding for children with Education Health and Care Plans. Further details can be found here.
- Central School Services Block- This block contains the funding which support central services provided by the local authority. The level of centrally retained funding is agreed by Schools Forum.
