This training has been brought to you by Slough Borough Council's Early Education and Workforce Officer, Aneesa Younus, for the attention of Early Years Practitioners Level 2 and Level 3, Early years assistants and Practitioners supporting children on a 1:1 basis.
This training is for Slough settings only and will be delivered online via Zoom.
The cost for this course is being highly subsidised by the Early Years Inclusion Grant, participants are being asked to make a small contribution towards the cost. (full cost of training without funding would be £80.00).
Level 1 workshop:
Introduction level - Teaches approximately 150 sign/symbol concepts from stages 1, 2 and parts of the Additional vocabulary. Also teaches the Finger-spelling alphabet and provides important background information about Makaton. The workshop is an excellent mix of practical signing and symbol teaching and sharing information.
In addition, each person participating will have a workshop manual to participate. It is a workbook, and contains valuable information, workshop sheets, and all the line drawings of signs and symbols covered in the workshop.
A feedback form following completion gives 30-day free access to Makaton Hub membership. This gives access to thousands of signs and symbol concepts as well as Makachat, a forum for asking questions and gaining support. The Hub also has a library of webinars on a wealth of related subjects which can be accessed during this 30 day free membership period.
Level 2 workshop:
Aim: To teach stages 3 & 4 and the second part of the additional vocabulary, as well as refreshing Level 1 vocabulary. The workshop also provides further information about the research behind Makaton, how to apply Makaton and introducing teaching approaches. This workshop is very interactive and a good mix of practical and information.
A workshop manual is also provided for participants with information and all the signs and symbol concepts.
