FGM Training For Early Years

This training has been brought to you by Slough Borough Council's Early Years Childcare Development Co-ordinator, Clare Thompson, for the attention of all Early Years practitioners who have previously completed an introduction to safeguarding course, including Childminders and assistants.

FGM training session is aimed to raise awareness of the practice of FGM and to inform Early Years practitioners of the facts and issues and how and where to make a referral.

Content:

  • What is FGM;

  • Challenging the Myths of FGM – Cultural stereotypes;

  • What is safeguarding;

  • Rights of the child; 

  • FGM & UK law; and

  • Wider Slough multiagency provision and pathway.

Learning outcome

  • How to recognise the signs of FGM;

  • To understand the process of referral; and

  • To increase understanding about risk assessment and health implications to the child.
