  1. FREE workshop on Developing Creative Digital Natives in the Primary and Secondary Classroom

Thursday 8th February, 3pm - 4:30pm via Zoom

Explore how to create a 2D platformer game in 30 minutes at both Primary and Secondary level - without the need for coding skills. Led by Nick Brown, an FE Lecturer and Digital Creative from Hereford College of Arts, this hands-on FREE workshop guarantees an engaging experience. Nick, also the co-director of MASH Cinema, brings over 20 years of expertise in curating immersive film events and delivering workshops for all ages.

By the end of the workshop, you will be able to turn your classroom into a hub of digital activity. Your pupils will see that if they can use a mouse and keyboard, then they can create their own game to share with the world. Teachers will be able to easily monitor pupils' projects to track progress, and students will develop transferable skills such as storytelling, problem-solving, maths, and creative and strategic thinking.

  1. FREE online CPDL session on how to connect, learn and contribute to the wellbeing of your Primary school pupils

Thursday 22nd February, 3pm - 4:30pm via Zoom

How to use creative approaches to support primary school pupils’ mental health. This session, led by Leigh Johnstone, Artistic Director of Fluid Motion Theatre Company, explores innovative strategies to effectively support the mental health and wellbeing of young learners in primary schools.

Through engaging discussions, practical activities, and real-life examples, Leigh will guide participants on using the Wellbeing Check-In scale, fostering creative conversations with children through play, and implementing classroom activities focused on 'Celebrating Ourselves' and building self-esteem. The session also includes reflective activities, resources, and insights into successful programs run by Fluid Motion Theatre Company. Additionally, two primary schools will share their meaningful practices and resources to inspire and support fellow educators.

By attending this CPDL session, you will gain valuable strategies to enhance mental health support for young learners in your primary school and leave with practical tools and approaches to implement in your classroom. With like-minded educators and professionals, you will explore successful programs and practices from Fluid Motion Theatre Company and other primary schools.

             3. FREE Sketchbook/Progression Planning training for the Primary Art Curriculum

Thursday 29 February, 4pm – 5:15pm via Zoom

Join Gavin Austin-Woodward, Director of the Creative Arts Faculty at The Littlehampton Academy; BA Fine Art with music, PGCE, MTL (Masters in teaching and learning) for this FREE online session which will explore fundamentals of curriculum intent and sequencing, progression plans and mapping. Followed by strategies from other Primary schools on how to effectively use sketchbooks.

This session has come out feedback from the networking and sharing good practice Forum for Slough Primary Art Subject Leaders and Secondary Heads of Art – Slough Art Leads Forum (ALF) meets half termly online for free. Share ideas, resources, advice and challenges, hear from expert practitioners like Gavin and local creative practitioners/cultural enrichment providers.
