Celebrating Black History Month

This article has been brought to you by Slough Borough Council for the attention of all schools.

Today marks the start of Black History Month.

BHM is a time to recognise and celebrate the many contributions Black people have given to the world, including in music, sport, healthcare, everyday life and more.

‘Honouring our Communities’ is this year’s theme, which invites us to look more closely at the communities that shape, support and sustain us across the UK.

Slough has been home to many notable Black people, including Lydia Simmons OBE, the first Black person to become a Mayor in England (see attached).

Slough Music Service, in partnership with Safer Slough Partnership, will be running an event on Saturday 17 October at the Curve, 6-9:30pm, with music, poetry, dance, celebration and an opportunity to support local businesses: Black History Month Showcase and Sale Tickets, Saturday, October 17  •  6 PM - 9:30 PM | Eventbrite
