Celebrating Pride with you

This article has been brought to you by Slough Borough Council on behalf of Slough Children First for the attention of all schools.

This month is Pride month and we would like to celebrate Pride with all of our staff. 🏳️‍🌈

Pride is an annual celebration and moment reflection of the many contributions made by the LGBTQ+ community to history, society and cultures worldwide. In most places, Pride is celebrated throughout the month of June each year in commemoration of its roots in the Stonewall Riots of June 1969.

Did you know that in the UK, the first official Pride march took place in London in 1972 and has grown in significance since then?

Slough Children First are proud to be an inclusive employer and are proud to support all our staff and foster carers who identify as LGBTQ+ and their allies!

Q Hub

Working with a young person?

Did you know that LGBTQ+ young people in Slough face unique challenges, from high rates of mental health issues to barriers in schools, healthcare and community spaces? National surveys and local stories suggest that:

💔 70% of LGBTQ+ youth experience anxiety, and 62% report symptoms of depression

💔 Nearly half face bullying in schools, impacting their education and futures.

💔 Healthcare stigma leaves many without the support they need.

Slough's rich diversity brings added complexity, with cultural and religious attitudes creating further barriers for many LGBTQ+ youth, particularly those from Black, Asian, and minority ethnic backgrounds.

The Q Hub Allies Forum is here to foster inclusivity, amplify voices, and drive change for LGBTQ+ young people in our community. It is Slough own LGBTQ+ youth group supporting young people from 13-18. They can make friends with other LGBTQ+ teens, take part in events, activities and talks. Their Team and volunteers are all from the LGBTQ+ community and are here to provide you with a safe and supportive space while encouraging them to be proud of who they are.
