Children in need
The Department for Education (DfE) has published outcomes statistics for children in need, including children looked after by local authorities in England in 2023/24. The data shows: at 31 March 2024, 44% of children in need were persistently absent from school in the 2023/24 academic year; and the percentage of persistent absentees for children looked after for at least 12 months was 20.8%, slightly higher than for the overall pupil population.
