This article has been brought to you by Slough Borough Council's Youth Work Team Leader, Nadine Barrett, for the attention of all schools.
For this round of Make Your Mark they will be held in February 2022, alongside the elections for new members of Slough Youth Parliament. This is the first time, UK wide, they are being aligned and we hope to keep this as a future cycle to make the process more efficient and streamlined for you.
Make Your Mark will be held via paper ballots delivered to your school. You will be in charge of how students vote in house and can send us back the results via an attached spreadsheet, to be sent out before Feb 2022.
Any young person between the ages of 11 – 18 in the UK are eligible to vote. If a postcode is required please enter their home postcode if they are a Slough resident or the school’s postcode if they live outside of the borough.
Slough Youth Parliament Elections will be done online via a survey we set up individually for each school/college. We recommend 2 students standing per year group, to make the final 14. If there are more per year group interested, you could hold assembly speeches & a year group vote to reach your final candidates.
Successful candidates will go forward to make up our next Slough Youth Parliament and internally will elect a new Member of Youth Parliament for 2 years to represent Slough on the nation-wide stage. Young people must live, work or volunteer for a minimum of 14 hours per week, or be educated for 12 hours minimum per week, in Slough.
Results will be announced at an event in March 2022, when our new parliament term will begin and manifesto set based on Make Your Mark Results. You can then support your elected youth reps to lobby, campaign, inform and update the student body and wider community on issues important to young people in Slough.
