The Department for Education has published the first report from the Five to Twelve longitudinal study of children in primary education. Exploring factors influencing primary school children’s educational outcomes and wellbeing, the report shares findings from a survey of 8,632 Year one children in 2023/24 in state-funded education in England. It includes an analysis of: household socio-economic and demographic characteristics; child health, special education needs, health behaviours and socio-emotional measures; school environment and predicted attainment; and home learning environment. Findings highlight consistent links between socio-economic and demographic characteristics, including free school meal eligibility, special educational needs status and household income, and the behaviours and experiences of children and their families at home and school.
