This article has been brought to you by Slough Borough Council's Waste & Environment Technical Officer, Thomas McGrory, for the attention of Primary Schools in Slough.
Slough Borough Council works in partnership with Grundon Waste Management to make sure that as much waste as possible from your red bins is recycled at the Colnbrook Materials Recovery Facility.
If you live in the Borough of Slough, have you ever wondered what happens to all the stuff you put in your black and red bins?
To manage the waste that can not be recycled, Slough Borough Council delivers the content of your black bins to the adjacent Lakeside Energy from Waste facility. Here it is safely and efficiently turned in to sustainable energy - enough to power 56,000 homes - nearly the residential population of Slough Borough.
If you teach KS2 students in a Slough School, you have the opportunity to show what happens to it all, on a free visit to the Lakeside Energy from Waste facility. Not only is the visit free, so is the transport to and from Colnbrook, but visits do need to be booked in advance.
For more information, please see the document below or visit the following page: Recycling for Schools. If you are interested in this exciting free visit for KS2 Students, please contact: Lakesidevisitors@viridor.co.uk, Thomas.McGrory@slough.gov.uk, or ruth@ruthroll.co.uk.
