New Kao Academy online resource launches for Slough primary schools

Kao Data, which is a data centre operator in Slough, has re-launched its trailblazing online resource to teach primary school children about future careers in the data centre industry.

The Kao Academy online resource has exciting new curriculum-based lesson plans on science and technology for Upper Key Stage 2 (ages 9-11), along with lots of puzzles and games to really bring the subject to life.

Kao Data has also launched a competition for primary schools across Slough, which asks children to design their very own Data Centre Superhero. The three winning schools will each get a £100 Amazon voucher for their class, and there are fantastic STEM toy prizes for the first, second and third individual prizes.

Vineet Vijh, Founder and Director of Viva Slough, said: “With Slough being the largest data centre hub in Europe, this initiative couldn’t be more timely. It will not only support the continued growth of our town but also inspire pride in the opportunities being created here.

“Introducing primary school children to the data centre industry helps them see the exciting jobs of the future that could one day be theirs, while giving our community the skills foundation it needs to thrive for generations to come.”

Lizzy McDowell, Director of Marketing at Kao Data, said: “Our newly re-launched Kao Academy will help children connect STEM subjects to real-world industries, sparking interest at a formative age and encouraging underrepresented groups to see a place for themselves in the tech industry, specifically the fast-moving data centre industry.

“The data centre industry has a critical talent shortage, so by engaging with primary school children in the areas in which we operate, we can inspire our young people to consider a rewarding STEM career path.”
