This week is LGBTQ+ Adoption & Fostering Week – an annual campaign that brings together adoption and fostering agencies from across the UK with LGBTQ+ potential applicants. The week is ran by New Family Social to raise awareness and encourage the LGBTQ+ community to consider adoption or fostering. The theme for this year is ‘Change Lives in 25’ and we are proud to support.
Slough Children First are also proud to be part of regional adoption agency Coram, and to have supported the re-connection of adopted children with their birth relatives with the support of their adoptive families.
Last year alone, 1 in 5 adoptions in the country were to same-gender couples. However, the actual number of adoptions to these couples fell by 40 from 2023. Coram recognises the urgent need for more people to step forward to adopt in England and welcomes adoption enquiries from the LGBTQ+ community.
Our fostering team will be holding an information session on Thursday 6 March at the Chalvey Community Centre between 2-4pm, especially for new potential LGBTQ+ adoptees and foster carers. If you know anyone who may be interested, please share this information with them (flyer attached) and direct them to https://www.eventbrite.com/e/1256667930609/
