Ofcom has launched an enforcement programme to ensure online platforms prevent the spread of illegal intimate images, including AI-generated deepfakes, to help increase protection for women and girls online. By 30 September 2026, online platforms are expected to have automated technology in place known as ‘hash matching’ or equally effective technology to detect and block this content. Ofcom is also gathering evidence on the online harms experienced by women and girls to inform further action.
