This article has been brought to you by Slough Borough Council's Active Slough Team, Ciaran Crean, for the attention of all Schools in Slough.
Delighted to announce that ‘junior parkrun’ has officially arrived in Slough! This popular national initiative launched at Salt Hill Park in July, courtesy of the council’s Active Slough team and a group of committed local volunteers.
It provides free weekly 2km timed runs for children aged 4-14 at 9am every Sunday. Parents are welcome to run, jog or walk alongside their children but must not cross the finish line, to ensure only children’s finish times are officially recorded.
“it’s been a fantastic to see the enthusiasm from all our junior runners, most of whom are completely new to parkrun. From the very first week there has been a real community feel and friendly atmosphere, we want as many families as possible to come down and experience it! The weekly events can’t run without the support of volunteers and we’re always on the lookout for more. It’s very rewarding and only takes a couple of hours, please contact us via salthill-juniorshelpers@parkrun.com to register your interest."
- Ciaran Crean, Co Event-Director of Slough’s Junior Parkrun
Free parking is available at Salt Hill Park. All junior parkrun finishers aged 4-14 are eligible to receive 20 per cent off activities at Salt Hill Activity Centre on presentation of their unique barcode on Sundays.
Before joining the group on Sunday mornings, junior runners need to register in advance at www.parkrun.org.uk/register. This will provide them with a unique individual parkrun barcode, which must be presented at the end of the run in order for a time to be recorded against their name.
