This article has been brought to you by Slough Borough Council's Curve Programme Development Officer, Dayna White, for the attention of Primary and Secondary Schools, Headteachers, Heads of English, Head of Year 5 & 6, KS2 Leaders, PSHE Leads and Pastoral Care.

Slough Speaks is a summer programme giving the young people of our community a chance to take part in activities to improve their public speaking skills and confidence.

The programme will run throughout August with sessions for those in years 5 and 6, with separate sessions for secondary school age.

The debate exercises will enable them to discuss current social and political affairs to gain knowledge and build arguments to present to their peers. Topics to be discussed include whether 16 year-olds should have the right to vote, climate change and the effect of technology in modern society.

The programme will end with a big debate event allowing the young people to put their skills into practice and present to the rest of the community.

It is free to take part in Slough Speaks, those interested need to contact the programme leader, Alaa Fawaz alaa.fawaz@hotmail.co.uk.
