This article has been brought to you by Slough Borough Council on behalf of Trunks Across the Thames for the attention of all schools.
Trunks Across the Thames is an art trail being run by Thames Hospice in partnership with Wild in Art. The free art trail will take place across Slough and Windsor during the summer of 2026. The trail will feature 50 small elephants and 30 large elephants.
Schools are invited to take part in Trunks Across the Thames by joining our Learning Programme. Here is how this works.
- You adopt a small elephant sculpture, pledging to fundraise a minimum adoption fee.
- You get a blank elephant sculpture to design and decorate as a school, transforming it into a work of art.
- The finished sculpture is part of the art trail in the summer of 2026, showcasing the children’s creativity to hundreds of visitors.
- At the end of the trail the elephant returns to the school to keep as a legacy.
Our team are on hand throughout the project to support you. This includes:
- An assembly or talk from a member of our team to help you launch the project to the school
- A digital Learning Toolkit full of ideas, inspiration, learning and downloadable resources
- A half-termly newsletter ‘Trunks in the Community’, highlighting the latest news, opportunities, and actions to take to keep you on track
- A flexible fundraising timeline (you have until September 2026 to raise the funds) and exciting fundraising initiatives to help you smash the target
- Ongoing advice and help from the team via email or phone
The minimum fundraising adoption fee is £1,300. The organisation will support schools with their fundraising and even have a “seed” fund from one of our supporters that could help schools to raise this amount.
