Supporting effective transitions and starting reception
In Slough we want to ensure all our children, families and staff engage in successful transitions; a commitment that together:
All children have successful transitions which will enhance their well-being and learning
All children and their families will ‘feel known’ and develop a sense of belonging
All children have positive opportunities to contribute to their transition
Every child’s transition is personalised and tailored to meet their individual needs
Consistent support and advice is given to all staff in early years settings and schools regarding transition planning
The DfE has urged schools to work closely with private, voluntary and independent nurseries to support children’s transition into Reception
Early education and equalities minister Olivia Bailey says, ‘Achieving this requires a strong focus on the early years, with reception acting as a vital bridge between early education and primary school.’
