This article has been brought to you by Slough Borough Council's Libraries and Culture Community Programme Development Officer, Gaby Koenig, for the attention of Secondary Schools, Headteachers, History Leads, PSHE Teachers and Art Teachers.
This year we will be holding a special programme for schools on Friday 24 January at Britwell Library to honour Holocaust Memorial Day.
The programme begins at 10am-11am, with a screening of the live webcast from the Holocaust Education Trust featuring the testimonial of a Holocaust Survivor. Afterwards, from 11am-12pm there will have a workshop aimed at really engaging students with the themes and issues of the Holocaust lead by an educator from the trust.
We have just 30 places available for students aged 14+.
To book, let us know how many places for students, and how many staff will be accompanying them by 11 January. As this is a special workshop we are asking for contribution towards the cost, we suggest £1 per pupil, with teachers and teaching staff going free. If you cannot afford the full cost or can only come if it is free, please do get in touch to discuss it further.
In addition, we would like to invite schools to submit art works by their students inspired by Holocaust Survivors and honouring the lives of those who died. The art will be exhibited on the first floor of The Curve from Holocaust Memorial Day till end of February.
Submissions should be in 2D media – painting, drawing, collage etc only. Please hand artwork into The Curve by 24 January.
