Promoting the Achievement of Looked After Children (PALAC)

Improving outcomes for students in care - Collaborative Project between Slough CST and SBC Education.

PALAC is a Knowledge Exchange (KE) programme that seeks to support practice in schools to improve outcomes for students in care. It originated as a result of the dearth of evidence available to support schools in developing practice for this group of children and young people.

Collaborations

The collaborative relationship between practitioners in school and university researchers seeks to improve our collective understanding of how students in care can thrive in school.

Evidence-informed practice

The programme promotes evidence-informed practice in schools and the structure of the programme itself is based on what is currently understood as how to best support professional learning and development in schools.

However, as a KE programme, PALAC places considerable emphasis on the generation of evidence from practice to contribute to the emerging evidence base.

The programme is run by the Special Educational Needs Joint Initiative for Training (SENJIT) at the UCL Institute of Education (IOE) and draws on expertise across the IOE with colleagues from the Thomas Coram Research Unit and the Department of Psychology and Human Development.

Celebration Conference 2017: http://www.ucl.ac.uk/ioe/news-events/events-pub/feb-2017/looked-after-children

We are inviting schools to submit an expression of interest in taking part in a locally run project with PALAC which will:

  • Enhance the reputation of Slough
  • Provide an opportunity to celebrate good practice in our schools and authority
  • Provide evidence of collaborative working for external bodies, e.g. Ofsted
  • Provide a superb professional development opportunity
  • Promote collaborative learning and working

Please see the proposal for this project below. If you are interested in taking part in this innovative opportunity please notify Anne.Bunce@scst.co.uk by Friday 19th October.
