The Westgate School

The Westgate School is committed to ensuring every student is '#equippedforlife'. The Westgate School is a vibrant educational community serving the area of Cippenham to the west of Slough. It delivers a high quality comprehensive education for approximately 1000 young people aged between 11 and 19 years, providing a viable alternative to the selective system which prevails in the town. In our last Ofsted inspection the school was deemed outstanding in all categories.

At The Westgate School, we aim to support the intellectual, emotional and personal development of all of our students. In reality, this means providing them with the literacy, numeracy and practical skills to access a rich curriculum which offers them a diverse range of academic and practical subjects; in addition to gaining high quality qualifications, this allows our students to develop their talents and skills and discover new interests.

We are also committed to offering our students a curriculum and opportunities that will stretch and challenge their capacity to think for themselves, develop their confidence and provide them with a safe environment in which they can step outside of their comfort zone. In a rapidly changing and developing world, with increasing globalisation, we believe it is vital to equip our students with skills that will enable them to adapt and take on the jobs of the future, some of which may not yet exist. Levels of attainment at the school exceed most similar schools and our students make progress that is significantly above that of other schools nationally. However, another of our key measures of success is ensuring that all students leave The Westgate School fully equipped to take their next step in life, whether that is employment, training or university.

We provide all of our students with clear careers guidance and advice and they all have extensive opportunities to engage with local and national businesses. We are extremely fortunate to work with a number of high profile companies who provide our students with valuable insight into the world of work, develop their employability skills and enable them to gain work experience. School life should also be about enjoyment and celebration of success and, at The Westgate School, we believe learning should be engaging and fun and we provide a wide range of enrichment activities beyond the classroom.

We are committed to developing strong moral values amongst our students and place a high value on tolerance, honesty and kindness. We recognise that our students are all individuals and we work hard to identify and support their wellbeing and individual needs through a structured tutor system, dedicated pastoral support and a strong SEND department. We value all members of The Westgate School community and our success is built on respect and a strong partnership of students, staff, parents and governors.
