Early Years | Using stories & books to support children's learning

This session is for Slough schools and settings only and all non-Slough based provision will be removed.

This training has been brought to you by Slough Borough Council's Business Support Officer Shamila Khan, for the attention of All practitioners working in the Early years.

Time for a story; stories are key in children's learning in the early years. They support the development of listening and communication skills, improve concentration and memory, enable children to imerse themselves in different situations both real and imaginary, create a sense of wonder and help sequence events. They can also provide information, widen vocabulary and make important links between the spoken and written word, as well as stimulating an interest and enjoyment of books and reading. This training looks at top tips for story telling and using books and stories to provoke and support children's learning; including areas for sharing books and reading, books in the environment and as part of continuous provision.
