This Number Confidence Week we are meeting adults and young people to find out more about their relationship with maths and the steps they’ve taken to feel more comfortable with numbers in their everyday life.
Monika is a parent living in Cumbria, who seized the opportunity to learn and grow her number competency through some of our learning opportunities.
She said: "I have completed free Maths and English courses, as well as a business administration course. They were all relatively short, and I appreciate the confidence they gave me. For me, it was more of a refresher and a way to document my skills on paper, as that seems to be crucial now for getting new jobs. I wish I had done it years ago."
"I find the knowledge of maths to be particularly useful. It's enjoyable to be able to assist my son, especially with his homework. Ideas seem to flow more naturally, without much conscious effort."
Monika's advice for any parent who wants to support their family’s learning is simple – “If you're interested in doing a free course, go for it! It's a great chance to consider a career change or gain more confidence in your skills. Taking advantage of free education is a no-brainer. So, why not seize the opportunity?”
Monika's story shows that it's never too late to invest in ourselves and our families.
