Ofsted Inspection of Slough Children's Services Trust

This article has been brought to you by Slough Borough Council's School Effectiveness Service Lead, Johnny Kyriacou and Slough Children's Services Trust Communications Officer, Andrew Scott, for the attention of all schools in Slough.

We have this morning been told by Ofsted that their ‘Inspection of Local Authority Children Services’ known as ILACS will begin today and last for three weeks. This means that a team of Ofsted inspectors will be looking at children’s services across both the Council and Trust during these three weeks and will provide a graded judgement at the end of the inspection.

Inspectors will be spending most of their time with frontline staff, looking at cases and may wish to meet with certain partners either in relation to a specific case and / or to discuss a key line of enquiry. Could you please ensure that, during this period, your agency is represented at any meetings you have been asked to attend and the most appropriate person attends or speaks to an inspector if a phone call is made to your school.

We will be sure to let partners know if we receive anymore information which could be useful during the course of the inspection.

In the meantime, if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with Michelle Gwyther – our lead contact for the inspection.  She can be reached on will also be on 07771 874647 or michelle.gwyther@scstrust.co.uk.

As a reminder of our journey so far, Slough had its last Children’s services Ofsted inspection in November 2015, when it was judged as inadequate, and has since received seven monitoring visits. It also underwent  an independent fostering agency inspection in June 2018, which was graded as requires improvement,  and a voluntary adoption agency inspection in October 2018, which was graded as good.

This Ofsted inspection is an opportunity for us all to demonstrate the hard work and improvements made by both by the Council, Trust and partners to provide good outcomes for vulnerable children, young people and their families.

Apologies if you have received this information more than once but we are letting all agencies across each of our partnerships know about the inspection and there may be some duplication of notification.

Thank you in advance for your co-operation and support.
