Overall, the findings for the early years sector were very positive.
97% of childminders and 96% of nurseries and pre-schools are good or outstanding. But Ofsted are concerned about:
📉 The number of childminders continuing to fall, limiting choice
🚸 More local authorities saying they don’t have enough childcare places
👩🏫 The growing shortage of qualified staff
With all of these challenges, it is very encouraging that:
🏅 Such a high proportion of providers are still rated good or outstanding
📚 there are significant improvements in the teaching of reading in primary schools
📋 the quality of the reading curriculum and staff training are both better
