Overall, the findings for the early years sector were very positive.

97% of childminders and 96% of nurseries and pre-schools are good or outstanding. But Ofsted are concerned about:

📉 The number of childminders continuing to fall, limiting choice

🚸 More local authorities saying they don’t have enough childcare places

👩‍🏫 The growing shortage of qualified staff

With all of these challenges, it is very encouraging that:

🏅 Such a high proportion of providers are still rated good or outstanding

📚 there are significant improvements in the teaching of reading in primary schools

📋 the quality of the reading curriculum and staff training are both better
