This article has been brought to you by Slough Borough Council's Public Health Programme Officer, Timothy Howells, for the attention of all Primary Schools in Slough.
July 10th sees the beginning of the Active Movement programme in Slough Borough Council. The programme is designed to improve our well-being by encouraging us to sit less and move more as part of our office routine.
But it is more than just about life in the office. As you know, the Active Movement programme is also in Early years and Primary settings throughout the borough as children are encouraged to be less sedentary and a little more active as part of their own school routine.
In other words, for the perhaps the first time, you and other schools, nurseries and Children Centres you deal with everyday are sharing the same programme with the same long-term objectives. This ‘community’ approach is an important strategy for the council.
So when talking or meeting with council employees, please share your experiences and knowledge about the programme and its benefits; swap anecdotes and innovations; encourage them to participate; and feedback any concerns or issues that might arise.
After all, we are all now part of the same Movement.
