Slough Resilience Foster Care Launch

This article has been brought to you by Slough Borough Council on behalf of Slough Children First, for the attention of all Primary and Secondary school teachers.

Hi All,

A reminder that our Independent Fostering Agency (which is being rebranded to Foster with Slough) will be adding Resilience Foster Care (RFC) to its list of fostering services fromTuesday 6 February 2024.

RFC is a specialist foster care service aimed at providing short/long term, family based therapeutic placements for children and young people aged 5-16, who currently live in residential care, or who without this provision would likely be placed in a residential home.

Kind regards,

The team at Slough Children First

April 2024 update

Resilience Foster Care is a type of therapeutic fostering where a child or young person has experienced significant neglect or trauma, has high complex needs and would benefit from therapeutic caregiving as part of a step down plan from residential care or to prevent them from going into residential care. The children that will be placed in this scheme may have lived in a residential setting and need a supportive family home where they can build a trusting relationship whilst they receive therapy or support to help them overcome a traumatic experience or period in their lives. This is for children and young people with difficult or traumatic life experiences and are displaying complex, challenging and risky behaviours.

The aim of resilience foster care is to offer short and long term homes to children with more complex needs with the intention of preventing the need for placement in residential care, or to support children ‘stepping-out’ of residential care.  The model focuses on moving children and young people aged 5 – 16 years old from residential care into intensively supported foster homes with a wraparound support. This will provide a secure base to children in a nurturing and enabling environment so they can build secure attachments and thrive.

This scheme is targeted at applicants with previous experience as a foster carer, or have experience caring for children or young people, or have a background in childcare, youth work, social care, teaching, probation and police etc.

Please see below the Slough Resilience Foster Care poster which can be circulated in schools.

Kind regards,

Inderbir Pannu, IFA Marketing Officer, Slough Children First
