Vaccination opportunity for those that missed out

This article has been brought to you by Slough Borough Council's Public Health Programme Officer, Timothy Howells, for the attention of all Primary Schools in Sough.

As part of the annual flu vaccination programme for Reception to year 5 pupils, we are excited to present this additional opportunity to vaccinate any children that might have missed the school vaccination session, or where parents may have opted out but would now like the vaccination.

On the 15th December a Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue van will be at Montem Leisure Centre in the morning, followed by Asda in the afternoon, providing the chance for children to be vaccinated.

As part of this I would kindly ask the following of all primary schools:

  • Please circulate the attached flyer where physically possible
  • Please remind any children that might have initially missed the vaccination that they can go on the 15th
  • Please promote in your newsletters which go out to parents
  • Please also share on your social media platforms, whilst using the hashtag #IamVaccinated

Approximately 50-100 people die every year in Slough, many of which are children, and this is driven in part by low vaccination rates. Please encourage as many people as you can to get vaccinated and get protected against this winter killer.

Parents may be concerned about the use of gelatine derived from pork in the children’s flu vaccine, but very sensitive scientific tests have shown that no DNA from pigs can be detected in the nasal flu vaccine (Fluenz).
