This article has been brought to you by Slough Borough Council's Public Health Programme Officer, Timothy Howells, for the attention of Secondary Schools in Slough.
Over the last 10 years, schools have provided fantastic support to the delivery of the HPV (Human Papilloma Virus) vaccination for secondary school aged children by hosting vaccination sessions for their children.
Vaccination provides individual protection to children against cervical cancer, which is the most common cancer in women under 35 in the UK.
The HPV vaccination programme has been very successful, with evidence that there has been an almost 90% reduction in the infection rate of HPV.
Personalised letters are being sent out to Slough Secondary schools to remind them of this vaccination programme and provide an update to what is happening locally.
If you would like your copy electronically or have any questions about the HPV vaccination programme then please do not hesitate to get in touch by emailing timothy.howells@slough.gov.uk.
