COVID-19 | DfE Remote Learning Resources Update

This article has been brought to you by Slough Borough Council's Group Manager for Schools Effectiveness, Jo Curd, for the attention of all schools.

Laptops, tablets and 4G wireless routers were provided by the Department for Education (DfE) to support remote learning during the COVID-19 pandemic.

DfE will provide data for 4G routers until 31 July 2021.

‘Restricted’ Windows laptops and tablets came with security software licenses that will expire on 30 September 2021.

You need to reset routers and devices so they can continue to be used.

Why Routers Need Resetting

If you have Huawei routers, you need to reset them by 16 July 2021 so they can continue to be used.

If you have TP-Link or D-Link routers, you can reset them at any time. DfE will stop providing data to these routers on 31 July 2021. If you reset them before this date, they will stop receiving data from DfE immediately.

Why Laptops and Tablets Need Resetting

After 30 September 2021, Microsoft Intune and Cisco Umbrella licenses will expire on ‘Restricted’ Windows devices provided by DfE.

Users will be able to freely access any online content and devices will not be maintained with future updates, including virus scans and software upgrades. It’s your responsibility to safeguard the young people in your care.

If you ordered ‘Standard’ Windows devices that were provided without security settings, no action is required.
