Keeping Young People Safe With The “Stay True to You” Approach

This article has been brought to you by Slough Borough Council on behalf of the Thames Valley Prevention Partnership's Senior Communications Officer, Time Wiseman for the attention of all schools.

Support to all schools - keeping young people safe with the “Stay True to You” approach

The Thames Valley Violence Prevention Partnership urges all schools/teachers - particularly secondary and primary (Yr6) - to familiarise themselves with the “Stay True to You” resources via the website www.staytruetoyou.co.uk and to make contact to discuss how it can support your school.

Launched in May this year, it is an approach to supporting young people to stay safe and away from violence and crime.  It takes a positive, vibrant and empowering approach - championing a young person’s own confidence to plan ahead, to trust their instincts and to reflect on who are their trusted adults if they need to ask for help.

An offer of support is made to all schools, including:

  • Resources and research from young people on the Stay True to You website
  • A lesson plan for delivery -  can be amended/tailored as necessary
  • Training for all school staff - and an offer to support delivery of the lesson plan to support staff confidence
  • Printed posters and materials to accompany workshops/lessons in school
  • Attendance at school engagement events - parent’s evenings etc - to promote resources/information for parents, including a printed booklet (see attached)
  • Free online information sessions for all parents/carers (next session 6.30pm -8.30pm Wednesday 25 September - registration via: https://staytruetoyou.co.uk/upcoming-training-dates-parents/
