Stay well this winter reminder - Flu and stomach bugs

This article has been brought to you by Slough Borough Council's Public Health Programme Officer, Timothy Howells, for the attention of Early Years settings.

As winter is now well on its way, it’s vital for people to consider the flu vaccination.  The vaccination is the most effective way of preventing the flu, and it is physically not possible to “catch” the flu from the vaccine!

As part of this I would kindly ask the following of all early year settings:

  • Please circulate the attached flyer to promote the flu vaccine
  • Please remind parents of children aged 2-3 that their children can get vaccinated for free at their GP
  • Please remind any staff that have a caring responsibility that they also get the vaccine for free. All other staff should be encouraged to have the vaccine at their pharmacist to protect your service users and their friends/families
  • Please promote the handwashing flyer in your toilet areas. This will help raise awareness of good hand hygiene and hopefully prevent the spread of recent Norovirus outbreaks
  • Please also share on your social media platforms, whilst using the hashtag #IamVaccinated

Approximately 50-100 people die every year in Slough, many of which are children, and this is driven in part by low vaccination rates.

Please encourage as many people as you can to get vaccinated and get protected against this winter killer.
