Do you want to improve the way your school supports pupils with their behavioural, social and emotional needs?
Do you want TA’s who are empowered to deliver positive change for pupils?
Do you want pupils who feel supported and able to talk about their difficulties?
If so, have you thought about Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) training for your TA’s? We at Slough Borough Council, Integrated Support Service are running our next course in October.
ELSA has been successfully rolled out in more than 80 Local authorities (ELSA network, 2017) and once trained are able to help children to learn and practice social and emotional skills individually, in groups or at whole class level. The ELSA role is supported by research that indicates interventions led by ELSA’s result in a statistically significant improvement in children’s emotional literacy (Mann & Russell, 2011) and a reduction in challenging behaviours (Butcher, Cook, Holder-Spriggs, 2013) enabling pupils to develop personally, emotionally, and  academically (Grahamslaw, 2010). Furthermore, these skills are not only helpful in school but are also transferable to the home context (Wilding & Claridge, 2016).
Following attendance on the Slough ELSA training course, previous attendees felt confident to deliver interventions immediately in their schools and were able to help pupils with a wide variety of social, emotional and mental health needs. Teachers and Parents also noticed better engagement and positive change in children’s behaviours.
Initial Cost: £300 (Slough maintained/academy/free schools)
