Knife Angel Slough | Month Of Action Jan 23

This article has been brought to you by Slough Borough Council's Education Safeguarding Professional, Jatinder Matharu, for the attention of All Schools.

Thank you to all the schools that signed up for the Safety Centre Year 7 Workshops www.safetycentre.co.uk. There was a fantastic sign up to these sessions. The Safety Centre is busy setting up the dates with schools directly this week.

Last week it was shared that Thames Valley Police will be sending out a letter which can be sent to parents and guardians. Please see letter attached which can be used to communicate with parents. We would like to ensure all parents and guardians across Slough receive the same information on the knife angel and the activities planned alongside this.

Also attached is a short assembly presentation which has been put together by TVP that can be can adapted and delivered in schools to start the dialogue about knife crime with pupils.

A short briefing is also attached outlining the details of the project. If you have any specific questions please direct them to the TVP Project leads: Ricci.dolan@thamesvalley.police.uk and/or Karen.bunce@thamesvalley.police.uk

January 2023 will mark the month of action and Slough will host the national monument against violence and aggression, Knife Angel between 9th – 31st January 2023. It will be situated at Arbour Park Stadium in Slough.

As part of the planned activities, 15 FREE workshops are available which will be delivered by the Safety Centre www.safetycentre.co.ukavailable for Year 6 and 7 to empower children and young people to make positive choices in relation to knife crime and run approximately for 1hr and 15mins. The sessions are age appropriate and delivered by an experienced member of the Safety Centre’s Education Team either face to face or remotely into your school for groups of up to 30 students. (further details can be found on the attachment). You can book these sessions using this link here: https://forms.gle/cDSRCaQybAZeZuHn8

In addition to the information in the attachment, next week schools will be sent:

  • Assembly resource pack from Thames Valley, outlining key safety messages, why and what the Knife Angel signifies along with some signposting support services.
  • Letter to Parents from Thames Valley Police which can be sent to parents and guardians if you choose to do so. Please use this letter to communicate with parents rather than sending out your own correspondence. We would like to ensure all parents and guardians across Slough receive the same information on the knife angel and the activities planned alongside this.

**TVP will communicate directly with schools located near the Knife Angel in order to deliver a targeted message to their pupils.

If you have any specific questions, please direct them to the TVP Project leads: Ricci.dolan@thamesvalley.police.uk or and Karen.bunce@thamesvalley.police.uk
