TVP | Advice Regarding Use Of E-Scooters

This article has been brought to you by Slough Borough Council on behalf of Thames Valley Police, Schools Office/Safeguarding Team, PC Sloane for the attention of all School settings.

In light of the approaching Christmas season, Thames Valley Police (TVP) is providing advice to parents and students regarding the use of e-scooters.

The Slough E-scooter rental service has currently been suspended. The rider must possess a provisional or full driver's license and the rental agency must provide insurance coverage. The rental scooters should only be used within the local area, only be operated by one person, not be operated on the pavement, and no mobile phones should be used when operating the scooter.

TVP are observing a number of personnel E-scooters in Slough which are prohibited on public highways, and cannot be insured for use on the road. At present, personal E-scooters cannot be used on public roads under any circumstances. They can only be used on private land.

In order to combat the use of E-scooters, Thames Valley Police have adopted the Engage, Educate, and Enforce strategy, which can range from a warning letter to the seizure of the device. It is recommended that E-scooter riders wear bright protective clothing when riding an E-scooter, do not ride on the pavement and be aware of other pedestrians when riding.

It is mandatory that all new and existing members of scooter trials provide their name and licence number, along with a photograph of the front of their license, beginning on 5th December 2023.
